Raf Simons

Schwarz

The black raglan crewneck from Raf Simons' "History of My World" collection (AW05) represents one of the most intimate moments in the designer's work. The collection, which bore the same name as the inscription on the back label of each piece, was released in limited quantities and served as a personal manifesto — an introspective exploration of history, memory and identity. Simons moved away from the academic framework of the fashion system and created a collection that resembled an art installation rather than a regular seasonal collection.

This particular crewneck features a series of patch panels with the names of "haunted places" — from the Alamo in Texas to the Banff Springs Hotel in Canada. Thematically, it refers to motifs of collective memory, urban legends and the heritage of places marked by the past. Through minimalist design, Raf Simons creates a map of places where reality intertwines with the spirit of history — turning a banal print into a poetic commentary on fear, nostalgia and the human fascination with the unknown.

In the context of the fashion scene at the time, "History of My World" represented a fundamental departure from spectacular shows — it was an almost hidden collection, distributed only to selected stores and friends of the brand. But its influence was profound: it defined a new way of understanding fashion as a personal archive of emotions and thoughts, not just visual aesthetics. Today, crewnecks like this one are considered cult artefacts of Raf's era of introspective minimalism, when his work transformed from a fashion statement into a quiet form of poetry.
